The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the start of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, beginning today, Monday, August 18, 2025.
In a statement shared on its official X handle, the commission confirmed that the process will kick off with an online pre-registration phase through the portal www.cvr.inecnigeria.org, giving eligible citizens the opportunity to begin their registration ahead of physical enrollment.
INEC said in-person registration will officially commence on August 25, 2025, and will be available across its 37 state offices and 774 local government area offices nationwide.
The exercise is open to Nigerians who have reached the voting age of 18, those seeking to transfer or collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), as well as individuals replacing lost or damaged cards.
The electoral body cautioned against multiple registrations, stressing that violators risk sanctions. It also urged citizens to seize the opportunity, describing voter registration as vital to strengthening inclusive participation in the country’s democratic process.
For inquiries, the commission advised members of the public to contact its call centre via 0700-CALL-INEC (0700-2255-4632) or use the short code 4632.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every eligible Nigerian is given the chance to participate in future elections, describing the CVR as a key step in consolidating democracy.
