The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a fresh three-day weather forecast, warning of heavy rains, thunderstorms, and potential flooding in several parts of the country between Monday, August 18, and Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

According to the outlook released by NiMet’s Central Forecast Office, northern states such as Zamfara, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Yobe, Borno, Gombe, Adamawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, and Taraba will experience moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms, especially on Monday and Tuesday. The agency flagged Maiduguri, Dutse, Katsina, Gombe, and Bauchi as high-risk areas for flooding.

In the central region, light to moderate rains are expected across the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Benue, Kwara, and Kogi. Meanwhile, southern states including Enugu, Anambra, Edo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Ebonyi, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Imo will see moderate rainfall, with Ebonyi identified as flood-prone during the period.

By Wednesday, August 20, conditions are expected to ease slightly with more cloud cover, occasional sunshine, and scattered light showers in parts of the north, central, and southern regions including Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.

NiMet also issued safety advisories urging motorists to avoid driving under heavy rainfall, residents in flood-prone areas to activate emergency response measures, and farmers to refrain from applying fertilizers or pesticides just before rains. The agency further advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather briefings to minimize flight disruptions.
