The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has recovered 112 kilograms of cannabis sativa following a road accident at Gadar Tamburawa on the Zaria-Kano expressway.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, confirmed in a statement on Thursday that the interception followed a collision between a Volkswagen Golf car and a truck around 6 a.m. on September 6.

He explained that NDLEA operatives rushed to the scene to rescue the occupants of the Golf, removing its windscreen and doors to extricate the driver and passenger. The passenger, who attempted to flee, was immediately apprehended.

A search of the vehicle uncovered 150 blocks and three sacks of loose cannabis sativa, weighing 112kg.

According to the spokesman, the injured driver, now receiving medical treatment, admitted to representing the consignor and confessed to making previous deliveries within and outside Kano. He also acknowledged using a one-way route to evade NDLEA checkpoints.

Muhammad-Maigatari said the truck driver sustained a fracture in the crash. He added that the incident involved two offences—reckless one-way driving and drug trafficking.

The command, under State Commander Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, vowed to prosecute those involved, commending the swift and professional response of its operatives.

He further noted that the action reflected the leadership of NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), and urged the public to desist from drug trafficking and report suspicious movements of illicit substances
