The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) has called on professionals and corporate leaders to urgently adopt ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool for efficiency, good governance, and long-term economic development.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos on Monday, ICSAN Vice-President Francis Olawale, who represented the President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Uto Ukpanah, said Nigeria must provide the right framework for the ethical deployment of AI.

“AI is not just a tool, but a disruptive force shaping many areas, including governance. Nigeria must not only adapt to this revolution but also provide the framework for its ethical and responsible deployment,” Olawale said.

He noted that AI is already influencing decision-making, coordination, and leadership across sectors. While acknowledging fears about AI’s disruptive potential, Olawale urged professionals to view it as a tool for creativity and efficiency rather than a threat.

The briefing comes ahead of the Institute’s 49th Annual Conference, themed “Reimagining Governance: Navigating the Artificial Intelligence Revolution for Excellence”, scheduled for September 18-19 at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos.

ICSAN announced that the event will feature key figures including Seplat Energy Chairman, Senator Udo Udoma, as conference chairman; Chams Holding Executive Director, Dr. Femi Oyenuga, as keynote speaker; and Dangote Cement Chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Ikhazobor, as dinner chairman.

Conference activities will include awards for excellence in corporate governance, social impact programmes such as a “Walk-for-Life” and book donations to schools, and networking opportunities for participants.

ICSAN stressed that the gathering aims to help professionals and the wider public understand AI’s benefits and limitations, ensuring they remain effective in governance and corporate leadership while embracing innovation.
