Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle and senior staff redeployment in the state civil service as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery.

A statement on Monday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, confirmed that Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Transport.

The Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, was redeployed to the Ministry of Environment, while the Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs returns to his substantive role after temporarily overseeing the transport ministry.

“All officials affected by the reassignments are to hand over to the most senior officials in their ministries by close of business on Tuesday, September 23,” the directive stated.

Governor Yusuf said the changes were intended to “maximise capacity, align responsibilities, and ensure effective results.” He urged civil servants to cooperate fully with the redeployed officials, stressing his administration’s commitment to accountability and performance.

In a related development, the state government flagged off training for the first batch of 380 volunteer youths, out of 600 recruited into the Special Anti-Phone Snatching and VIP Protection Guards. The two-week training aims to equip the recruits with skills to help tackle phone snatching, thuggery, and related crimes.

The move comes just days after Governor Yusuf issued permanent and pensionable appointment letters to 4,315 former volunteer teachers, part of a broader recruitment drive that has seen over 15,000 teachers absorbed into the state workforce since 2023.
