The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Apostle Ayodele David-Adesua, has condemned the burning of the party’s state secretariat in Ado Ekiti, describing the incident as a “desperate act of political cowardice and intimidation.”
David-Adesua, in a statement on Wednesday, said the attack would not deter the party from its mission to take over power in Ekiti and “restore the state to the path of development.”
“This attack is not merely against a building but against the democratic will of Ekiti people who seek freedom from tyranny and misrule,” he said. “From these ashes, we shall rescue, rebuild, and rise stronger, bolder, and more united. This cowardly act will only strengthen our resolve to defend truth, uphold justice, and restore the dignity of our people.”
Hoodlums reportedly set fire to the ADC Secretariat on Tuesday, vandalised property, and attacked members to disrupt the inauguration of the party’s executives at all levels.
David-Adesua vowed that the party would not bow to “agents of oppression or internal saboteurs,” adding that the ADC’s movement remained “people-driven, unstoppable, and divinely anchored.”
Former Minister of Interior and ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, who was in Ekiti for the event, also condemned the violence, calling it “a shameful display of intolerance and a dangerous threat to democracy.”
“It is regrettable that individuals who emerged through democratic means can resort to violence to suppress opposition voices,” Aregbesola said. “The beauty of democracy lies in the freedom of association and participation in open political activities without fear or intimidation.”
The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed that it has launched a full investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible for the attack.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed June 20, 2026, for the Ekiti State governorship election.
