Senator Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on three senators from Osun State to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after backing President Bola Tinubu for a second term.

Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), Lere Oyewumi (Osun West), and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) had jointly endorsed President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. Reacting to their endorsement, Basiru said the gesture showed they recognised Tinubu’s leadership and achievements. He described the move as an act of political maturity and integrity.

In a statement issued by his campaign team, the Senator Ajibola Basiru Campaign Organisation (SABCO), and signed by Remi Ajala, Basiru commended the lawmakers for their boldness. He said their recognition of Tinubu’s progress in areas like infrastructure, economic reform, and national security was proof of good judgment.

Basiru, who is a governorship hopeful in Osun, said the senators should go beyond verbal support. He urged them to join the APC and contribute to national and state development. He said their defection would help improve coordination between the federal and state governments, especially if the APC takes over Osun in 2026.

“If they want their constituents to enjoy Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda fully, then they must align with the APC,” Basiru said. “It will boost development in areas like education, health, and agriculture.”

The statement also criticized the current Osun State government, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke. It accused the PDP-led administration of underperformance, Basiru’s team said Osun needed a new direction and that joining the APC would help deliver better governance.

He also urged the senators to follow the example of other lawmakers who had crossed over to the APC in support of Tinubu’s leadership.
