The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to achieving the Zero Hunger target through a series of agricultural initiatives, policies, and programmes aimed at improving food production and access.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, made this known in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Tuesday during the official flag-off of input distribution to farmers across the state.
Kyari said food security remained a national priority under the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that government efforts were focused on supporting farmers, boosting productivity, and addressing food affordability challenges.
“This administration remains resolute in its commitment to developing the agricultural sector, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the goal of Zero Hunger,” he stated.
He added that President Bola Tinubu had demonstrated “unwavering political will” to transform the agriculture sector, citing the 2023 declaration of a State of Emergency on Food Security as a clear indication of the government’s intent.
Kyari further explained that the government had undertaken a review of existing agricultural programmes to ensure alignment with current priorities and had rolled out several short-term interventions to make farm inputs more affordable and accessible to farmers.
Speaking at the event, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, commended the president for revitalising the sector and creating new opportunities for farmers.
Similarly, Pastor Oni Olajide, who represented the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), praised the government’s support and pledged farmers’ cooperation toward achieving national food security.
