The Gombe State Government has commenced the distribution of subsidized fertilizer to farmers across all 114 wards in the state, reinforcing its commitment to agricultural development and rural empowerment during the 2025 wet season farming cycle.
The initiative, ordered by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, aims to ensure that farm inputs reach genuine farmers directly at the grassroots level down to individual polling units without imposing logistical or transportation burdens on them.
The distribution follows the Governor’s recent launch of the 2025 wet season farming activities, which included the unveiling of 10,000 metric tons of high-grade fertilizer equivalent to 200,000 bags at a heavily subsidized rate. The intervention underscores the state’s commitment to enhancing food security and improving agricultural output.
Confirming the progress of the exercise on Sunday, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, Dr. Barnabas Malle, stated that the process was running smoothly.
“Local Government Areas have already begun receiving their allocated shares, which are to be delivered directly to farmers at the ward level,” Malle said.
He lauded the quality of the fertilizer, describing it as “one of the best produced in the country,” and emphasized that timely access to quality inputs would significantly boost farm yields and agricultural productivity.
Malle also urged farmers to make judicious use of the inputs and stay alert to environmental factors by adhering to weather advisories.
“This effort is not just about fertilizer; it’s about empowering rural communities and strengthening our agricultural economy,” he added.
The Yahaya administration has consistently prioritized agriculture as a key pillar for economic growth and poverty alleviation, positioning Gombe as a model for integrated rural development in Nigeria’s North-East.
