At least 27 people were killed and many others injured during a brutal attack on Jebu-Rahoss community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State late Monday night.

The Local Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Mr. Haggai Gankis, confirmed the incident, saying most victims were women and sustained gunshot and machete wounds. He alleged that the attack, which occurred around 9:00 p.m., was carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

“Our community was invaded. Twenty-seven people were murdered, and many are in the hospital. It was a coordinated attack,” Gankis said.

The Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) also condemned the killings in a statement, urging the federal government to launch a full military operation to dismantle terrorist enclaves in Plateau State.

“We’re tired of statements and condolences. Our people need protection and justice,” COPDEM stated, calling for action from President Bola Tinubu and the National Security Council.

Chairman of Riyom LGA, Hon. Bature Sati Shuwa, confirmed the attack but said casualty figures were still being verified.

However, the Plateau chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) denied any involvement, calling the accusations baseless.

“We condemn all criminal acts. These claims against our members are unsubstantiated,” said MACBAN Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Babayo.

Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement as efforts to reach them remained unsuccessful as of press time.
