The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the start of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Plateau State as part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections.

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mohammed Sadiq, disclosed this during a press briefing in Jos on Thursday. He stated that online pre-registration will begin on August 18, 2025, while physical registration will commence on August 25 at INEC offices in all 17 local government areas of the state.

“The register of voters is at the heart of democratic elections and forms the foundation of a credible electoral process,” Sadiq said, noting that registration will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

The CVR is open to Nigerians aged 18 and above who have never registered before, as well as to those needing to collect or transfer their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), replace damaged cards, or correct personal details.

Sadiq explained that the online portal  http://www.cvr.inecnigeria.org  enables citizens to fill in their details from anywhere using a mobile phone with internet access. The service is free, and INEC has not approved any cybercafé or third party for registration.

“Online registration can be done anytime, anywhere. There are no charges or scratch cards involved. This platform will help reduce overcrowding at centres and enhance voter access,” he said.

The REC urged residents not to register more than once and assured that no eligible citizen would be disenfranchised.

As of the 2023 elections, Plateau State had 2,789,528 registered voters, with 2,687,533 PVCs collected  a 96.3% collection rate. Sadiq expressed appreciation to stakeholders and the media for their continued support in voter education and mobilization.
