The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria has appealed to the North East Development Commission to make livestock development a central part of its 2026 programmes. The group said pastoralist communities, despite being among the worst affected by insecurity, have benefited least from the Commission’s interventions.

In a statement signed by National President Khalil Mohammed Bello, the association praised the NEDC for its achievements in rebuilding infrastructure, supporting education and healthcare, aiding displaced families and assisting security agencies. It also commended the Commission’s emergency response during last year’s Maiduguri floods.

However, KACRAN said pastoralists who operate in remote, conflict-prone areas continue to face killings, displacement and theft of livestock with little targeted assistance. It described the imbalance as unfair, noting that billions spent on development have had minimal impact on rural herders.

The group urged the NEDC to adopt specific programmes for pastoralist recovery, including livestock distribution, animal feed, water points, relief support and palliatives. It also called for livestock development to be fully integrated into the Commission’s 2026 policy framework.

KACRAN said supporting pastoralists would revive the livestock economy, improve food security and contribute to lasting peace in the North East.
