The District Head of Kabo and Sarkin Gabas of Kano Emirate, Alhaji Idris Dankabo, has died at the age of 48 following a fatal motor accident in Kano metropolis on Thursday night.
The Kano Emirate Council confirmed his passing in a statement shared on its official “Sanusi Dynasty” Facebook page. Funeral prayers are scheduled for 10 a.m. today (Friday) at the Kano Emir’s Palace, with the Emir expected to lead the rites.
Late Dankabo, who was the eldest son of the late Alhaji Muhammad Adamu Dankabo founder of the defunct Kabo Air and Jarma of Kano left behind a wife and two children.
The Dankabo family holds a prominent place in Kano’s history, with the patriarch establishing Kabo Air in 1980, once a major player in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The title of Sarkin Gabas, held by the deceased, is one of the senior traditional positions in the Kano Emirate, with both cultural and administrative importance. His sudden death is seen as a major loss to the emirate and its leadership structure.
