The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted varying weather conditions across the country, with prospects of thunderstorms, moderate rainfall, and possible flash floods in several states between Monday, October 6, and Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

Monday, October 6: In the Northern region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains over Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Jigawa, and Kaduna states. Later in the day, more thunderstorms are expected over Kaduna, Yobe, Borno, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, and Taraba.

The Central region will experience cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine and chances of isolated morning thunderstorms in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Benue, and Niger. Later, isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains are expected in Plateau, Nasarawa, FCT, Niger, Kwara, Benue, and Kogi.

For the Southern region, cloudy skies with light morning rains are expected over Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Edo, Ondo, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Anambra, and Enugu. Thunderstorms with moderate rains are likely in Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Lagos, Oyo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, and Rivers states in the afternoon and evening.

Tuesday, October 7: NiMet forecasts sunny skies with patches of clouds over the north, with thunderstorms expected in Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, and Kaduna in the morning. Later, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in southern Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, Taraba, and Adamawa.

Cloudy conditions with morning thunderstorms and light rains are expected in parts of Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger, FCT, and Plateau in the central region. The south will experience light morning rains in Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Imo, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Abia, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, with moderate rains expected later.

NiMet warns of possible flash floods in Anambra, Imo, Delta, and Bayelsa.

Wednesday, October 8: The northern region will remain sunny with chances of thunderstorms over Taraba and Adamawa throughout the day.

The central region will experience cloudy conditions with morning thunderstorms in Niger, FCT, Nasarawa, and Kwara, while isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected later in Niger and Kwara.

In the south, light morning rains are expected in Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ebonyi, Cross River, and Lagos, with isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains likely in Enugu, Abia, Imo, Anambra, Edo, Ebonyi, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom in the afternoon and evening.

NiMet advised states to activate emergency response plans due to the high risk of flash floods. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously during rain, while farmers are advised to avoid applying fertilizers and pesticides immediately before rainfall to prevent nutrient loss.

Residents are also urged to fasten loose objects, disconnect electrical appliances during storms, and stay away from tall trees. Airline operators are advised to obtain location-specific weather reports for flight planning.
