The House of Representatives has intensified its probe into the alleged mismanagement of about N2 trillion in agricultural intervention funds, summoning key financial institutions and federal agencies for another round of hearings.
In a fresh invitation signed by the Chairman of the Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, Hon. Chike Okafor, the Committee directed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), Unity Bank, Ecobank, Keystone Bank, Trust Microfinance Bank, Prospects MFB, the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), the National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC), and the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) to appear on Tuesday.
The Committee also invited the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), NIRSAL Microfinance Bank, and NIRSAL PLC to appear on Wednesday as lawmakers scrutinize how funds were allocated and utilized under several agricultural schemes implemented outside the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
This expanded inquiry follows a resolution passed by the House on July 1, 2025, mandating four Committees Nutrition and Food Security; Agricultural Production and Services; Agricultural Colleges and Institutions; and Finance to investigate allegations of widespread abuse in government-backed agricultural support programmes.
The Committee has already held two sittings, on April 8 and June 16, marking the upcoming sessions as the third phase of a push to strengthen accountability and improve transparency in Nigeria’s agricultural financing framework.
