Setting the Record Straight on  Senator Abbo’s Impact on Adamawa Politics – Anthony Zira

A heated political debate has emerged in Adamawa as Hon. Kumangar Solomon attempts to downplay the contributions of Distinguished Senator Ishaku Abbo to the state’s political landscape.

In response, Hon. Anthony Zira Guy has issued a strong rejoinder, calling out what he describes as a “deliberate attempt to distort history for political convenience.”

“Kumangar is a beneficiary of the very struggle he now seeks to belittle,” Guy stated. “In 2019, Senator Abbo was not a mere spectator but an active force in reinvigorating the PDP in Adamawa. He financed key activities, helped restructure the party, and played a crucial role in its victory. Meanwhile, Kumangar and others were nowhere to be found.”

Guy also reaffirmed the well-documented financial support of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who contributed over ₦1.6 billion to the PDP governorship election on election day alone. Despite these facts, he argued, some political figures are now attempting to rewrite history.

“Kumangar’s claim that Senator Abbo is frustrated is not only baseless but laughable,” Guy continued. “How can a man who has built a strong political reputation, contested and won elections, and remains a formidable force in Adamawa politics be described as frustrated? The real frustration lies with those who rise not by merit, but by aligning themselves with benefactors, only to later betray them.”

He also questioned Kumangar’s authority on PDP affairs, noting that he was a deputy permanent secretary under the APC government and played no role in the party’s 2019 success.

“Leadership should be about service and integrity, not sycophancy and historical distortion,” Guy concluded. “Senator Abbo remains steadfast in his principles and will continue to speak truth to power, regardless of whose interests are threatened.”
