President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday met with the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), at the State House in Abuja.

The closed-door meeting comes less than two weeks before the September 18 expiration of the six-month state of emergency declared in the oil-rich state.

Tinubu had suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the State House of Assembly on March 18, citing Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution during a nationwide broadcast.

The President later appointed Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, to oversee Rivers State with a mandate to restore stability and ensure governance continued amid the political crisis.
