The North East Development Commission (NEDC), in partnership with the Yobe State Government, has launched a five-day teacher training workshop. The programme targets 600 teachers and school administrators from across the state.

The workshop began on Monday. It focuses on improving teaching and learning using the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Agriculture (STEMA) method.

Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Idriss Adam, said the training aims to tackle key gaps in the education system. He noted that the sessions will promote modern, inclusive, and student-focused teaching.

He described the NEDC as a strong partner in rebuilding education in the North-East, especially in Yobe.

“The Commission has shown real commitment to our recovery,” Prof. Adam said.

NEDC Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, also reaffirmed support for Yobe’s education sector. Represented by the state coordinator, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, he said the training would reach teachers in all three senatorial zones.

“We’re supporting Yobe to strengthen its education workforce,” Alkali stated.

Lead consultant, Prof. Musa Alabe of Xascony Engineering, urged participants to see the training as a major investment.

“This is a chance to build your skills,” he said. “We’ve brought in top experts for this.”

The training reflects NEDC’s wider efforts to rebuild education across conflict-affected areas in the North-East.
