The Super Falcons of Nigeria are set for a hero’s welcome at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, after clinching their 10th WAFCON title in Rabat, Morocco, over the weekend. President Bola Tinubu will host the team in recognition of their exceptional performance at the continental tournament.

The Falcons defeated host nation Morocco in a tense final to reclaim their place at the top of African women’s football. The win has sparked widespread celebrations across Nigeria, with citizens lauding the team’s discipline, determination, and resilience.

Ahead of the reception, Governors Uba Sani (Kaduna), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), and Hope Uzodimma (Imo), alongside several federal ministers, were present at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to receive the team on their return.

As part of the celebrations, four Super Falcons stars Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie were named in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Best XI. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the list via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.

Ajibade, who captained the side and played a central role throughout the tournament, was voted Player of the Tournament. The Atletico Madrid forward also earned three Woman of the Match awards in Nigeria’s six matches.

Esther Okoronkwo contributed significantly with two goals and four assists, playing a key role in Nigeria’s attacking success. Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who recorded four clean sheets, was named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

Michelle Alozie, who played every minute of the campaign, was recognized for her solid defensive performance and scored the decisive winner against South Africa in the semi-final.
