In a significant milestone for education in Southern Kaduna, Vice President Kashim Shettima presided over the formal handover of the newly established Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, to the Nigerian government on Tuesday. The event marked the fulfillment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promise to establish a federal university in the region.

The ceremony, held at the university premises, was attended by several high-profile dignitaries, including Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani; Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South; Hon. Daniel Amos, member representing the Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency; Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa; Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukayode; and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher G. Musa.

Speaking at the event, Vice President Shettima emphasized the administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and enhancing technical and vocational training in Nigeria. He highlighted that the establishment of the university aligns with the government’s agenda to boost specialized education and equip Nigerian youths with practical skills for national development.

Governor Uba Sani commended President Tinubu’s administration for fulfilling its promise to Southern Kaduna, describing the initiative as a significant step toward educational and economic empowerment in the region. He assured that the Kaduna State Government would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the smooth operation of the institution.

Senator Sunday Marshall Katung and Hon. Daniel Amos also lauded the federal government’s efforts, noting that the university would provide much-needed opportunities for students in the region and contribute to human capital development.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, reiterated the government’s dedication to promoting applied sciences and technology-driven education. He assured that adequate resources and faculty would be provided to ensure the university meets global standards.

The establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, is expected to boost academic and economic activities in Kaduna State, particularly in Southern Kaduna. It also reflects the federal government’s broader strategy of fostering inclusive education and development nationwide.

The handover ceremony concluded with a tour of the university’s facilities, followed by a commitment from all stakeholders to ensure the institution’s successful takeoff and sustainability.
