    Jimeta, Yola

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a police officer and two vigilante members for alleged assault and misconduct following the circulation of a viral video that sparked outrage across social media platforms.

Inspector Ibrahim Usman, attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Jimeta, along with Papa Andema and Lele Audu, members of a local vigilante group, were taken into custody on Monday after being identified in a disturbing video allegedly assaulting a tricyclist. The incident, which unfolded in Jimeta, drew widespread condemnation and calls for justice from the public.

In an official statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the command confirmed that the trio was arrested for “conducting themselves in an unprofessional manner and incivility to members of the public,” a clear violation of the Nigeria Police Force’s ethical code and operational standards.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, PSC (+), emphasized the command’s unwavering commitment to accountability and professionalism. He assured residents that “appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken in line with extant laws and regulations.”

The police have not released details of the disciplinary process but urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the conduct of security personnel in the state, with civil society groups calling for improved oversight and training to prevent similar occurrences.

Authorities reiterated their appeal to the public to report any form of abuse or misconduct, assuring that such reports will be treated with the utmost seriousness.
