The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has declared candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winners of the just-concluded chairmanship elections in Badagry Local Government, Olorunda, and Badagry-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

The announcements were made late Saturday at the respective secretariats in Ajara, Iworo, and Kankon, following collation of votes.

In Badagry Local Government, Returning Officer Mr. Akinwunmi Lewis declared Mr. Babatunde Hunpe of the APC winner after polling 27,442 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, who scored 1,814 votes, and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate, who secured 308 votes.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes, I hereby declare Mr. Babatunde Hunpe as the duly elected chairman of Badagry LGA,” Lewis announced.

In Olorunda LCDA, Returning Officer Mr. Adegboyega Oladiran declared Mr. Peter Kumayon of the APC as winner with 28,799 votes, while the ZLP candidate garnered 562 votes. Despite not fielding a chairmanship candidate, the PDP recorded 470 votes.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes, I hereby declare Mr. Peter Kumayon as the duly elected chairman of Olorunda LCDA,” Oladiran said.

At the collation centre in Kankon, Prof. Abiodun Okedeyi of the Lagos State University of Education announced Mr. Rauf Ibrahim Yemaren of the APC as the winner of Badagry-West LCDA, after securing 11,538 votes, defeating the ZLP’s candidate who scored only 73 votes.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the law by securing the highest number of valid votes and scoring at least 5 per cent of the votes in all five polling units, Rauf Ibrahim Yemaren is hereby declared the duly elected Chairman of Badagry West LCDA,” Okedeyi stated.

In their post-election remarks, the newly elected chairmen expressed gratitude to residents and party stakeholders. Hunpe pledged to fulfil campaign promises and surpass his predecessor’s achievements. Kumayon assured the people of Olorunda of his commitment not to betray their trust. Yemaren also thanked the APC leadership in Badagry-West, including Mr. Joseph Bamgbose and outgoing chairman Mr. Joseph Gbenu, promising to build on the foundation laid.

The results reflect a sweeping victory for the APC in the Badagry axis during the Lagos local council polls.
