Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has declared Thursday, October 30, and Friday, October 31, as public holidays to allow residents to participate in the November 1 local government elections.
The announcement was made in a statement on Tuesday by the Information Officer, Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tanko Lawal, quoting the SSG, Abubakar Usman.
According to the statement, the work-free days will enable voters to travel to their polling units and cast their ballots. During the period, markets, banks, and public offices will remain closed, while movement of persons and vehicles will be restricted except for those on essential duties.
The government urged residents to turn out in large numbers and perform their civic responsibilities, describing the elections as an opportunity to elect credible grassroots leaders.
Governor Bago also directed security agencies to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the polls, reaffirming the state’s commitment to a safe and transparent electoral process.
