The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a fresh warning to the public over the proliferation of fake contracts, loans, and grants being falsely attributed to the apex bank.

In a statement released on Monday, the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Sidi-Ali, disclosed that the bank’s attention had once again been drawn to fraudulent activities by individuals and groups claiming to represent or act on behalf of the CBN.

“These actors continue to circulate fictitious offers of contracts, loans, grants, intervention funds, and other financial benefits allegedly issued or endorsed by the CBN,” she said.

The statement noted that despite a public advisory issued on November 18, 2024, these fraudulent schemes have persisted, luring unsuspecting members of the public with bogus offers.

The CBN categorically stated that it has not authorized, licensed, or appointed any person, group, or organization to act as an agent in offering contracts, grants, or financial interventions. Furthermore, it warned that the bank does not engage in awarding contracts or disbursing funds through unsolicited channels like emails, SMS, phone calls, WhatsApp, or social media platforms.

“It is important to clarify that the CBN does not request any form of payment in exchange for such purported benefits and does not work with intermediaries or third-party agents in this regard,” the statement emphasized.

The apex bank advised members of the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious offers to law enforcement agencies or the nearest CBN branch. It also reiterated its commitment to protecting the financial interests of Nigerians and assured that it is collaborating with security agencies to investigate and clamp down on fraudulent operations.
