A small plane crashed into a residential neighborhood in southern California in the early hours of Thursday morning, igniting multiple vehicles and damaging several homes, according to authorities.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that a Cessna 550 aircraft went down at approximately 3:45 a.m. local time, in a street near the Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in San Diego.

Footage from the scene showed charred remnants of vehicles, with rows of cars reduced to blackened shells and at least one house suffering significant structural damage. Debris from the crash was strewn across the street, and emergency crews responded swiftly to contain fires and secure the area.

The San Diego Police Department reported evacuations of three streets surrounding the crash site, urging the public to avoid the area and to immediately contact authorities if they encountered debris or detected the smell of jet fuel.

ABC News cited the San Diego assistant fire chief, who described the aftermath as a “gigantic debris field,” confirming that several homes and parked cars had been hit by debris and flames.

As of Thursday morning, there was no immediate information on casualties or the number of occupants aboard the aircraft at the time of the crash. Investigations into the cause of the crash are underway, with federal aviation and local emergency officials on site.
