Elon Musk has criticised Donald Trump’s massive new spending bill, saying it increases the deficit and undermines cost-cutting efforts.

In a recent interview , Musk said he was “disappointed” by the legislation, which includes tax breaks and higher defence spending.

The bill, narrowly passed by the House, could add $600 billion to the federal deficit. It now heads to the Senate.

Musk, who led Trump’s cost-cutting team known as Doge, said the plan “undoes” much of their work.

“It increases the deficit, not lowers it,” he said, adding, “A bill can be big or beautiful — not both.”

The legislation extends Trump-era tax cuts and raises the debt ceiling to $4 trillion. It also funds mass deportations.

Musk donated over $250 million to Trump’s 2024 re-election but says he’ll now reduce political spending.

He plans to focus on Tesla, where he remains CEO.

Tesla has faced backlash over Musk’s political role, including protests and a dip in sales.

“I did what needed to be done,” Musk said, defending his federal budget cuts.

His comments signal growing tension within the Republican Party over fiscal policy.
