The Federal Government has announced Friday, September 5, 2025, as a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

The declaration was made in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 3, by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The government congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and abroad on the occasion, urging them to uphold the Prophet’s virtues of peace, humility, tolerance, love, and compassion.

Ajani further encouraged all Nigerians to use the opportunity to pray for peace, stability, and national development, while supporting the government’s efforts to strengthen unity.

“The Minister of Interior wishes Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid. The celebration gives us another chance to promote peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and selfless service to humanity,” the statement read.

The government also appealed to citizens to remain law-abiding and security-conscious during the holiday.

Eid-ul-Mawlid, observed in the third month of the Islamic calendar, Rabi’ al-Awwal, is marked with prayers, lectures, processions, and acts of charity.
