The Federal Ministry of Education has unveiled the Inspire Live(s) Online Real-Time Classes Initiative, a national digital learning programme designed to give schoolchildren across Nigeria broader access to quality education.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, the initiative was described as a landmark effort that supports the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is aimed at tackling persistent challenges such as teacher shortages, unequal access to learning, and frequent disruptions to schooling.
According to the ministry, the platform streams live, interactive lessons directly to learners, ensuring that children in rural, urban, and underserved communities receive the same quality of instruction. “Inspire Live democratizes education and guarantees that no child is excluded due to their location or circumstances,” the statement said.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, confirmed that full implementation has begun, adding that the programme is expanding to cover Primary 1 through Senior Secondary 3. At present, the Inspire platform runs online classes for Junior and Senior Secondary School learners from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, using Cisco Webex and delivered by certified master teachers.
Subjects available for Junior Secondary School students include Basic Science, Mathematics, English Language, ICT, Agricultural Science, Basic Technology, Civic Education, French, Physical Education, Religious Studies, History, and Business Studies.
For Senior Secondary School learners, classes cover Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing/Catering Craft, Civic Education, and Automobile Mechanics.
To ensure nationwide participation, the ministry has ordered state Commissioners for Education to appoint State Focal Officers, circulate programme details to all public and private schools, and ensure designated schools have the basic ICT tools and internet needed for seamless access. Registration, it added, must be completed by school principals through the Inspire support channels.
The ministry also emphasized that Inspire Live(s) is open to all schools, both public and private across Nigeria, reinforcing its goal of creating an inclusive and accessible digital learning ecosystem.
