The Federal Government has commenced the full rollout of its 1Government Cloud (1Gov) Digitalisation Project, a sovereign platform designed to introduce paperless governance across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The initiative, implemented through Galaxy Backbone Limited under the Sovereign Digitalisation Programme, is being pioneered by key MDAs, including the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Ministry of Solid Minerals, Ministry of Steel Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Federal Ministry of Justice.

Programme Director of 1Gov Cloud, Mr. Wumi Oghoetuoma, said the project was developed to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks, cut costs, and strengthen accountability in public service. He noted that the platform integrates secure digital file management, electronic signatures, encrypted communication systems, video conferencing, and a unified government asset registry.

Galaxy Backbone’s Managing Director, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, described the rollout as a turning point in Nigeria’s digital journey, saying it will enable faster decision-making, more secure documentation, and improved services for citizens.

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation has also adopted a phased approach, prioritising staff training and infrastructure upgrades, with a target to achieve a fully paperless civil service by December 2025.

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, explained that President Bola Tinubu has mandated a broad digital transformation of public service delivery. He added that the government aims to digitalise 70 per cent of services nationwide by 2025 under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
