The Federal Government will unveil three newly constructed cancer centres on May 29, 2025, in Katsina, Nsukka, and Benin, as part of the first phase of a nationwide oncology expansion.

Coordinating Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, said the initiative—implemented in partnership with the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority—is the largest cancer care investment in Nigeria and West Africa.

The centres aim to serve up to 2,000 oncology patients and 350,000 diagnostic clients annually and train 500 clinicians within three years.

To ease treatment costs, the National Health Insurance Authority has introduced subsidies of up to ₦400,000 for low-income patients undergoing radiotherapy.

Pate emphasized that this move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the administration’s plan to improve access and affordability of cancer treatment across the country.
