    ACCRA, Ghana

A Ghana Air Force helicopter with eight people onboard has gone missing while en route from Accra to Obuasi, according to a press release issued by the Ghana Armed Forces on Wednesday.

The helicopter, identified as a Z9 model, departed from Accra at 9:12 a.m. local time. It was carrying a total of eight individuals—three crew members and five passengers—when it lost contact with air traffic control and vanished from radar.

In a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, who serves as the Acting Director General of Public Relations, the military confirmed that efforts are currently underway to re-establish communication and locate the aircraft.

“All efforts are being made to establish contact. On board were 3 crew and 5 passengers. Further details to be communicated soon,” the statement said.

The sudden disappearance has sparked serious concern and mobilized a coordinated search and rescue operation involving military and emergency teams. Authorities have yet to confirm whether the helicopter crashed or made an emergency landing.

The incident has drawn attention from across the country, with families of those onboard anxiously awaiting updates. Security analysts say the Z9 is commonly used for transport and reconnaissance missions and is typically equipped with standard communication and tracking systems.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
