Gombe State has announced a target of N39 billion in internally generated revenue for the 2026 fiscal year. The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Salihu Baba Alkali, disclosed this during the public presentation of the budget breakdown in Gombe.
He said the projection represents significant growth from the previous year and is achievable given the strong performance of the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service, which exceeded its 2025 collection goal by more than one hundred percent.
Baba Alkali explained that the state has strengthened its revenue service to meet the new target and support ongoing infrastructure and development projects. He encouraged residents to continue paying their taxes to boost the revenue base and reduce dependence on federal transfers.
The commissioner noted that Gombe expects major federal inflows in 2026, including a statutory allocation of eighty billion naira, VAT receipts of sixty-five billion naira, and other FAAC funds totaling one hundred and thirty-two billion naira.
He added that the state plans to draw one hundred and eighty-six point seven billion naira in external loans, mainly from multilateral institutions such as the World Bank and the Islamic Development Bank.
Baba Alkali reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving internal revenue and reducing long-term reliance on federal allocations.
