The Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP) has handed over water supply and maintenance equipment to the Yobe State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, to improve access to hygienic water for residents.

MCRP State Project Coordinator Alhaji Idi Musa Jidawa presented the equipment to the state government, stating that the project has achieved significant milestones in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) across Yobe.

He said the equipment, which includes solar panels, solar pumps, riser pipes, hand pumps, VLOM tools, AC pumps, and other essential items, aims to address water pollution issues in some communities.

The MCRP has also rehabilitated and upgraded existing motorized infrastructure, such as boreholes, hand pumps, and VIP latrines.

Jidawa thanked Governor Mai Mala Buni for his support of the project and appealed to stakeholders to prioritize the maintenance and operation of WASH facilities.

He noted that the rehabilitated infrastructure had been in disrepair and overstretched while struggling to meet the demands of the growing population, particularly those displaced by the Boko Haram crisis.

State Commissioner for Water Resources, Engineer Usman Ahmed, received the equipment and the rehabilitated facilities and expressed gratitude to MCRP.

He assured that the equipment would be used effectively to address water supply issues in the state.

He called on other development partners in the state to assist the government in addressing challenges facing citizens.

The MCRP project has also constructed new WASH infrastructure, including hybrid boreholes in health facilities, schools, and markets throughout the state.
