The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has received commendation from the Volunteer Media Advocacy for Accountable Leadership over its recent staff promotion examination, which the group described as transparent, merit-driven, and in line with public service standards.
In a statement signed by its national coordinator, Aminu Augustine, the advocacy group said its review found that the NCC followed due process and ensured that promotions were based strictly on performance and available vacancies, as stipulated by public service rules.
“Each cadre had limited slots, and not all who passed were promoted where vacancies were unavailable. This aligns with the Public Service Rules,” the group stated.
It added that interview panels were well-structured, featuring representatives from all six geopolitical zones, external observers, and officials from the Federal Character Commission (FCC), underscoring fairness and inclusivity.
The group also lauded the Commission’s decision to release individual score breakdowns to candidates, calling it a significant step toward transparency and accountability in public sector human resource practices.
The statement urged other government agencies to emulate the NCC’s example by adopting fair and transparent internal evaluation systems.
“All indications point to a process that prioritized fairness, objectivity, and due process. The NCC should be commended for setting an example in public sector human resource management,” the group concluded.
