Abuja, Nigeria – February 5, 2025
The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) today paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi, to congratulate her on her appointment and express their support for her leadership.
The delegation, led by NCWS Chairperson Princess Edna Azura, commended Professor Maikudi for her leadership potential, expressing strong confidence in her ability to steer the University toward greater success. In her remarks, Princess Azura stated, “As a young professor, we have no doubt that your tenure will usher in an era of progress and transformation for the University of Abuja and the nation at large. We are here today not just as representatives of the largest umbrella body for women’s organisations in Nigeria, but as partners in progress, deeply interested in the advancement of education, particularly for women and girls.”
Responding, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the visit, acknowledging the NCWS for their continued support. She emphasized her commitment to collaboration, highlighting the need for unity in advancing educational goals. “I want to thank you for your visit and your support. I am open to collaboration because our priority here is the students—not just female students, but all students, both male and female. We are working hard to create a comfortable and supportive environment where they can thrive and build good memories,” Maikudi stated.

Professor Maikudi further stressed the importance of ensuring access to education for women, particularly adult women who may have been previously excluded from formal education. “We must find ways to ensure more women, especially adult women, have access to education. While we are committed to educating our sisters and younger generations, we must also focus on those who were left behind. Education is not a privilege; it is a right, and everyone should have access to it,” she affirmed.
The visit marked the beginning of what is expected to be a fruitful collaboration between the University of Abuja and the NCWS, focused on improving educational opportunities and promoting inclusivity, particularly for women and girls.
