The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested eight suspects in connection with the attack on its outpost at Koraman Nayalli in Katsina metropolis.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Buhari Hamisu, confirmed the arrests to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.

Hamisu said the incident occurred on Sunday when a group of youths protested a recent raid that led to the death of a suspected drug peddler, identified as Uzairu, popularly known as Dan’kuda.

According to him, the protesters, described as miscreants, stormed the NSCDC outpost located in Koraman Nayalli, Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters, in large numbers and set the facility on fire.

“During the attack, three motorcycles and other operational items belonging to the outpost were also destroyed,” Hamisu said.

He added that the attackers, some of whom were armed, also moved toward nearby NSCDC and police outposts at Filin Kanada.

Hamisu said combined Special Response Squads from the NSCDC and the Nigeria Police intervened swiftly, contained the situation and restored normalcy in the area.

He disclosed that the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Moriki, had ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Moriki, he said, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and set up a seven-man committee to probe the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The commandant also warned criminal elements and economic saboteurs to desist from unlawful activities or face the full force of the law.
