Ogun State’s Gateway International Airport will officially commence direct commercial flights to Abuja on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, with services scheduled twice weekly.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the development on Tuesday via his official X account, confirming that ValueJet, one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing airlines, will operate the routes.

According to the flight schedule, departures from Gateway International Airport in Iperu-Ilishan will take place every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 a.m., with return flights from Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on the same days.

“We are delighted to announce that full flight operations will officially commence at the Gateway International Airport on October 7th, 2025,” Governor Abiodun said. “This milestone moment will begin with direct commercial flights between Ogun State and Abuja, operated by ValueJet.”

Tickets for the inaugural flights became available from September 25, 2025, through online platforms, accredited travel agents, and ticketing desks at the airport.

Abiodun described the launch as a landmark achievement in Ogun’s plan to position itself as a hub for aviation, commerce, and industry. He noted that the new service would not only enhance connectivity with the Federal Capital Territory but also drive economic activity, attract investors, and make travel easier for both residents and visitors.

Gateway International Airport, approved by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority in 2008, only began construction in April 2021 under the Abiodun administration. The facility boasts Nigeria’s longest runway at 4 kilometres, a modern passenger terminal, advanced traffic control systems, and a state-of-the-art control tower designed for both cargo and passenger operations.

In April 2025, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency conducted critical runway and flight procedure checks, validating the airport’s readiness for commercial operations.
