    Abuja, February 5, 2025

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) convened an emergency meeting today at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja to address the escalating leadership crisis within the party. The meeting, which commenced at 11 a.m., focused on the ongoing dispute over the National Secretary position.

Key party stakeholders, including a committee led by former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, attended the session to provide updates and discuss recent developments. The primary agenda centered on the growing rift between factions supporting Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye, both of whom are contesting the National Secretary position.

A source within the BoT disclosed that the meeting was moved from the PDP National Secretariat to the Transcorp Hilton due to security concerns. The decision followed last week’s incidents, which included a security breach, raising fears of potential disruptions.

The BoT also deliberated on recent court rulings, particularly the Court of Appeal’s decision allowing Anyanwu to retain his position pending a final ruling by the Supreme Court. However, both Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye confirmed that they were not invited to the meeting. Ude-Okoye further revealed that the BoT had instructed both contenders to stay away until the dispute was fully resolved.

In an effort to stabilize the party, the Acting National Chairman assured the BoT that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting would proceed as scheduled in February 2025. This meeting aims to resolve outstanding leadership issues and reinforce the party’s commitment to unity, discipline, and its foundational ideals.

The PDP remains focused on mitigating internal conflicts to ensure its organizational stability ahead of upcoming political engagements. Party members and stakeholders are keenly watching the developments, hoping for a resolution that strengthens the PDP’s position on the national stage.
