The head of Nigeria’s law enforcement agency, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has authorized a wide-scale deployment of officers and enhanced operational tactics to maintain calm and deter threats during the holiday.

This directive, which applies across the country, was communicated to senior officers including regional heads, city-level commanders, and heads of tactical squads. They are expected to reinforce their presence around religious gathering locations, leisure centers, and other busy areas.

A statement issued Thursday by Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi highlighted the agency’s commitment to a secure atmosphere during the festival. The police chief emphasized the necessity of increased patrols, intelligence-driven monitoring, and coordinated search efforts to prevent any disruptions.

All commands have been instructed to ramp up visibility efforts, adopt proactive surveillance strategies, and focus on key locations where large crowds are expected.

While conveying greetings to Muslim communities nationwide, the police boss encouraged a spirit of mutual respect, kindness, and unity—especially during the holy period of Dhul-Hijjah.

He urged the public to stay alert and report suspicious actions to the nearest law enforcement body, reaffirming that safety is a shared responsibility between authorities and citizens.

Reiterating the agency’s dedication to public order beyond the festive season, the Inspector General extended his best wishes for a joyful and safe celebration, calling on Nigerians to reflect on the core principles of harmony and national cohesion inspired by the season.
