The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has revealed a strategic plan to enroll pensioners in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) by 2026.

Speaking in Lagos, PTAD Executive Secretary, Mrs. Tolulope Odunaiya represented by the Head of Corporate Communication, Mr. Olugbenga Ajayi said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to secure the wellbeing of Nigerian retirees.

“For us in PTAD, we are always working to ensure the wellbeing of our pensioners, ensuring they are comfortable, and are well taken care of,” Ajayi stated. “We have started negotiating health insurance for our pensioners because we know that the age they are is when they need healthcare more than even we that are working.”

Ajayi added that the Directorate is targeting at least 90 percent enrollment coverage for PTAD pensioners by 2026 through the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

“Retirement is when people need government support more than the person who is collecting money every month,” he said.
