Nigeria’s table tennis sensation, Quadri Aruna, has reclaimed his position as Africa’s top-ranked player, overtaking Egypt’s Omar Assar in the latest International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) rankings.

Despite finishing as runner-up at the 2025 ITTF Africa Cup, Aruna’s consistent performances propelled him to 18th in the world rankings with 1,290 points.

Meanwhile, Assar, who clinched the Africa Cup title, dropped to 19th place, making Aruna the highest-ranked African player in the world.

In the women’s rankings, Egypt’s Hana Goda remains Africa’s top-ranked female player at 26th, reinforcing her dominance on the continent.

On the global stage, China’s Lin Shidong and Sun Yingsha continue to lead the rankings as the world’s No. 1 male and female players, respectively.

Aruna’s latest achievement highlights his resilience and consistency at the highest level of the sport, further cementing his legacy as one of Africa’s greatest table tennis players.

With the 2025 season in full swing, all eyes will be on Aruna as he aims to build on his success and challenge for bigger titles on the world stage.
