The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to head a newly constituted seven-member reconciliation committee tasked with uniting aggrieved party members ahead of two crucial events—the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for May 27 and the national convention expected in August.
Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, disclosed this while briefing journalists after a closed-door meeting with serving and former PDP governors on Sunday night in Abuja.
According to Mohammed, the committee is mandated to address internal grievances, resolve litigations, and rebuild trust within the party’s rank and file. He described the gathering as a strategic effort to strengthen the PDP’s internal cohesion and position it for electoral success.
“We are here with all the PDP governors and a substantial number of former governors, alongside our leaders, the party chairman, and members of the National Working Committee. We are determined to close ranks and ensure there are no misgivings between party leaders,” he said.
The seven-member reconciliation committee includes Governors Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Caleb Muftwang (Plateau), and Peter Mba (Enugu); former governors Sen. Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe), Sen. Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), and Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).
Governor Mohammed reassured party supporters that despite recent defections—most notably that of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the APC—the PDP remains united and is actively working to reclaim lost states.
“Rather than weakening us, these developments are forcing us to come together stronger. We have structures and history in those states and intend to win them back,” he said.
The meeting, held at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge, Abuja, was attended by PDP governors from Enugu, Zamfara, Plateau, Taraba, Adamawa, Osun, and Oyo states; FCT Minister Nyesom Wike; and prominent party stalwarts including former governors Ahmed Makarfi, Aminu Tambuwal, Sule Lamido, Gabriel Suswam, and others.
Also present were the PDP acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum; National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature; and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade.
The party’s leadership affirmed its commitment to delivering a credible convention, restoring internal democracy, and providing a level playing field for all aspirants.
