The diplomatic missions of the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia have launched a joint initiative to combat visa fraud, highlighting the growing threat of criminal networks targeting individuals seeking to travel, study, or work abroad

The #FightingVisaFraud campaign, unveiled during International Fraud Awareness Week from November 16 to 22, represents unprecedented cooperation among the three countries

According to a joint statement, the initiative builds on outcomes from the Five Country Ministerial and aims to protect legitimate visa applicants while safeguarding immigration systems and borders

Officials noted that fraudulent immigration facilitators continue to deceive applicants with false promises of visas, job offers, and expedited processing in exchange for high fees, leaving victims financially devastated and vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation

British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, said visa fraud “destroys dreams and devastates families” and urged applicants to use official channels and report suspicious activity

Canadian High Commissioner Pasquale Salvaggio stressed the importance of international cooperation and warned that consequences for visa fraud include visa refusals, travel bans of up to 10 years, financial losses, criminal charges, and exposure to trafficking networks

The missions advised applicants to use only official government websites, verify advisers, and be cautious of high fees, pressure to pay quickly, or guarantees of approval

Authorities from the three countries continue to collaborate with law enforcement to investigate and prosecute offenders, while each country manages implementation according to its national priorities

Official information is available at gov.uk for the UK and Canada.ca for Canadian immigration, with suspected UK fraud reportable via Action Fraud
