The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued a formal apology for the delay in administering the English Language Paper 2 of the ongoing 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The exam, originally scheduled for Wednesday, was conducted later in the evening. WAEC attributed the delay to measures aimed at preventing examination leakage.

In a statement released by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, the council explained that its primary goal was to maintain the integrity and security of the exam.

“While we achieved our objective, the delay impacted the smooth and timely conduct of the paper. We regret the inconvenience caused to candidates, schools, and parents,” the statement read.

WAEC cited logistical issues, security challenges, and socio-cultural factors as contributing to the disruption.

Despite the hiccup, the council reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards in examination administration and pledged to continue promoting academic excellence across the region.
