Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted on terrorism charges.
The sentencing was announced on Thursday by Justice James Omotosho, who ruled that Kanu would serve life in prison for Counts 4, 5, and 6 of the seven-count charges. Additionally, he was handed a 20-year jail term for Count 2.
The court’s ruling marks a significant development in the long-running legal proceedings against the IPOB leader, who has been at the center of multiple security and political controversies.
Authorities have not yet commented on the possibility of appeals.
